Mountain Hawks Complete Day One Of Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Lehigh men’s golf team is sixth out of eight teams after the first 36 action holes in the Patriot League championship at the Naval Academy Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 313 in the morning and 308 in the afternoon on the par 70 course to end day one at 621.

Sophomore Sam Barton was the top performer for the Mountain Hawks on day one, as he is 10th with 148. Barton hit the low round for Lehigh with a 77 on the first round and shot 71 on the afternoon, the best round of the day for any Mountain Hawk. Barton made six birdies on the first day, five of them in the afternoon where he finished one over par.

Sophomore Joey Dotta shot two rounds in a row, making a birdie in each round, and finished 22nd with 156.

Barton with an opening round 77 included senior Owen Quinn, who made four birdies on his first round. Quinn shot 81 in the afternoon and is 28th with 158.

One stroke behind Quinn is the second David Hurly, who ranks 34th with 159 (81-78). Hurly made a birdie on his first 36 holes.

The newcomers Edmund Broderick and Marco Arosemena take 45th place with 171. Broderick shot 85-86 with a birdie on each round, while Arosemena 84-87 also shot with a birdie on each round.

Loyola shot two consecutive rounds of 288 to take the lead of the team at 576. The Greyhounds lead Lafayette by nine strokes, while Navy is third by eleven strokes.

Brandon Berry from Loyola holds the individual 36-hole lead with one under par 139 (69-70). Berry leads teammates Evan Brown and Brendan Cronin of Lafayette by four strokes.

The Patriot League Championship ends on Sunday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Lehigh will play with Bucknell and Army West Point in the final round. The start times begin at 9 a.m. from the 10th tee.
