Three Mountain Hawks Named to Preseason All-Patriot League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three members of Lehigh football’s defensive unit have been named to the Preseason All-Patriot League team, announced Tuesday as the league announced its preseason awards and poll. Senior defensive lineman Mikhari Sibblis, senior safety TyGee Leach and junior cornerback LaTreil Wimberly represent the Mountain Hawks on the team after earning All-Patriot League honors following the 2021 season.

The Mountain Hawks were picked fifth in the preseason poll, garnering 35 points.

The Preseason All-Patriot League team, major awards and poll are voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Leach enters his senior campaign as a returning two-time first-team all-league honoree. He started all 11 games in 2021, tying for the team lead with 69 tackles, while adding a team-best eight pass breakups.

Sibblis started all 11 games on the defensive line, leading the Mountain Hawks with 4.5 sacks. He ranked third on the team with 47 tackles and added 5.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a blocked kick.

Wimberly joined Sibblis on the 2021 all-league second team. He finished with 44 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, while registering his first career interception against Holy Cross. Wimberly was also credited with a pair of pass breakups.

Three-time defending champion Holy Cross tops the preseason poll with 71 points and 11 first place votes. Fordham was picked second with 61 points and two first place votes, while Colgate garnered the remaining first place vote. Lafayette was picked fourth, followed by Lehigh and then Georgetown and Bucknell.

The Mountain Hawks carry the momentum of a three-game winning streak to close out the 2021 season into the 2022 campaign.

Lehigh opens preseason camp next week and will open the 2022 campaign on the road at Villanova on Friday, Sept 2. The home opener is set for Sept 17 when the Mountain Hawks welcome Richmond to Goodman Stadium.
