Seniors Alsobrooks and Dibsie Reflect on Their Lehigh Softball Careers

BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Lehigh softball program will honor Seniors Payton Alsobrooks and Allyson Dibsie after Sunday’s regular season finale against Lafayette. The 2021 class duo reached the championship round of the Patriot League tournament in each of the first two seasons and then saw a promising 2020 campaign derailed from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Mountain Hawks will be looking to secure a spot in a Patriot League tournament this weekend that would give Alsobrooks and Dibsie another shot at a Patriot League championship, which the last 20 graduating classes saw during their time in brown and white .

With the Seniors Day celebrations on Sunday, Lehighsports.com caught up with the members of the Lehigh softball class of 2021.

What is your favorite Lehigh Softball memory so far?

PA: My favorite memory of Lehigh softball has to be during the Patriot League tournament. We all gather in a hotel room and give each other awards. Every year this ends all the hard work we have put into the relationships we have built so far.

What legacy would you like to leave behind in Lehigh?

PA: I want to be remembered because I always have my teammates’ backs. I love every girl on this team and the teams I was on before this year. I want everyone to think I am taking a bullet for them.

Describe the feeling of going into senior citizenship. What do you think as you near the end of your college career?

PA: When I go to senior days, I’m very, very emotional. With COVID in particular, I feel like I almost wished for my last year, and I very much regret that. I love Lehigh and the softball team. Definitely bittersweet.

What will you miss most about Lehigh Softball?

PA: I’ll miss just being out in the field with some of my best friends, having a great time, crushing a few balls, singing songs, laughing.

What are your post graduate plans?

PA: When I graduate, I’ll be working as a Customer Logistics Supervisor for Ryder Systems about half an hour from Lehigh.

What is your favorite Lehigh Softball memory so far?

AD: My favorite memory up to this point would have to be my senior year overall. I have flourished as a mentor and I am very proud to be able to pass what I have learned on to the future of the program. The members of this team are very special to me and I am honored to have helped shape their experiences at Lehigh.

What legacy would you like to leave behind in Lehigh?

AD: I would love to be remembered for my tenacity. I overcame some difficult obstacles but persevered. The graduation will be very special for me because of my trip. I hope my experience can be remembered as evidence of what can be achieved with hard work and determination.

Describe the feeling of going into senior citizenship. What do you think as you near the end of your college career?

AD: Going into senior citizens’ day is a strange feeling. For me it feels like any other weekend. My softball journey has been long and arduous, but I’m proud of where I am. All good things have to come to an end and I’m at peace knowing it’s my time. I am ready to move on to the next phase of my life knowing that my experience has prepared me for whatever may come.

What will you miss most about Lehigh softball?

AD: Without a doubt, I’ll miss my teammates the most. I made a few friends for life.

What are your post graduate plans?

AD: I look forward to leveraging my degree in molecular biology. While nothing is set in stone yet, I am applying to biological research laboratories in and around Philadelphia and hope to graduate someday.
