Mountain Hawks suffer first loss in conference play on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team (4: 2, 3: 1) suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks suffered a 6-1 loss to Navy outside on the Ulrich Courts. With the defeat, the browns and whites are still looking for their very first victory against the midshipmen.

Out of the gate, Navy won the colon by winning all three doubles matches. Junmoke James and Anshika Singh fought back in third place after an early deficit, but ultimately fell out 6: 3 in their match. In first place, Paula Gonzalz and Lehighanna Moskos dropped a 7-5 match with the top pair of the Mid.

The only win for the Mountain Hawks came from freshman Rachel Buchinsky in 5th place. The freshman player continued her tremendous start and won an instant classic, a three-set win over Tina Li, 6-4, 6-7 ( 3), 10-4. With the win, Buchinsky is now 6-0 in the season in the singles.

Senior Gonzalez lost a heartbreaker in a three-seater in 1st place. After taking the first set, the senior dropped the second set and fell 10-8 in the third and final set and suffered the loss of 2-6, 6: 3, 10: 8.

In second place, the second Imhof lost 6: 3, 6: 4 against Meghana Komarraju, while James, who played in the second year, fell 6: 1, 6: 3 against Miranda Deng.

Next, Lehigh will host the Army West Point Black Knights outside on the Ulrich Courts next Saturday at 2 p.m. Next Saturday’s game will also serve as senior citizens’ day.
