National YMCA finalist Julia Stevens makes an oral commitment to Lehigh Mountain Hawks

NEW COMMITMENT: Cheshire, Conn. Native Julia Stevens has made an oral commitment to Lehigh University and will arrive in Bethlehem, Penn. in autumn 2020.

Stevens, who holds the Winter Juniors Standard in the 200 Fly, swims year-round with the Cheshire Y Sea Dog Swim Club under head coach Sean Farrell. Most recently, at the YMCA Nationals last summer, she finished fourth in the 1,500 m lap, seventh place in the 200 m fly and eighth place in the 400 m lap. Last winter she had four top 10 finishes with Connecticut Seniors before finishing 11th in the 200 flyer at YMCA Nationals in April.

Stevens, who also competes for Chase Collegiate School, is a six-time Connecticut State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American finished third in the 200 and sixth in the 500 as a junior after finishing seventh and second at these events in their second season.

She said to Swimming World:

Stevens’ versatility will be of great benefit to the Mountain Hawks when they arrive on campus early in the 2020-21 season. She would have scored in both the A-final of the 200 Fly and the B-final of the 200 Free, 500 Free, 200 IM and 400 IM at the Patriot League Championships 2019, in which Lehigh finished fourth overall in the team standings.

She will take part too Maddie Dorish and Sarah Manthorp as members of the Lehigh class by 2024.
