Lehigh Heads To New York For The Doc Gimmler, Beginning Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s golf team is headed out to Farmingdale, NY for the annual Doc Gimmler hosted by St. John’s. The 54-hole event will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the Bethpage State Park Red Course.

Last weekend, the Mountain Hawks opened their season at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial hosted by Colgate. They placed eighth out of 14 teams in the tournament and finished with a final score of 878 (298-295-285). The Mountain Hawks’ performance Sunday pushed them up three spots in overall standings.

Top finishers for the Mountain Hawks so far have been junior Edmund Broderick who placed 18th and senior David Hurly who tied for the 27th spot.

The Bethpage Red Golf Course will play at 7,092 yards to a par 70. Tee times for both days will begin at 7:30 am

Participating teams at The Doc Gimmler include Colgate, Columbia, Connecticut, George Mason, Harvard, Hofstra, Iona, Lafayette, Lehigh, LIU, Navy, Niagara, St. John’s, Towson and Villanova.

Lehigh’s lineup will feature Hurly, Broderick, sophomores Aidan Oehrle and Jahan Bains and first-year Jake Roth. Senior Sam Barton will compete as an individual.

The men’s golf team returns to the Doc Gimmler after their ninth place tie at the tournament last year. Hurly tied for 14th place overall as the Mountain Hawks top finisher for the tournament. Barton also tied for an individual finish of 20th place, a result of him making two birdies in the final round.

Following the Doc Gimmler, Lehigh will have a brief break before heading to the Matthews Auto Intercollegiate in Apalachin, NY The tournament is hosted by Binghamton and will take place Oct. 2-3
