VFW Post 4174: Commencing | News, Sports, Jobs

A commencement is a new beginning and schools aren’t the only ones who celebrate such an event. Many organizations have year end socials of some sort to celebrate the end of a term and our Lehigh Acres VFW is no exception. In June, many of our people headed up to Orlando for a convention and installation of District Officers.

While at convention, besides meeting up with members of the VFW from other districts, there are many classes as well as opportunities to learn of any changes or improvements in policies and also the chance to discover new and innovative ideas for improving membership. It is also the time to renew friendships, catch up on any member happenings and also enjoy some real companionship of one’s peers.

Our new Commander has begun his term as of June and we are looking forward to learning what plans he has for the Post. He has already had several meetings with his other officers and there has been quite an exchange of suggestions for the coming year. Of course, there are many things our previous Commander instituted that are a must for continuance.

Many of our current activities will remain the same, such as our meals, the Hillbilly Bingo, the regular Bingo, the Show me the Money game, our Karaoke nights, our regular meeting nights which all fall on Tuesdays or the Wednesday Combat Trauma Support Group . Sundays will still herald our famous breakfasts and I have been told I will be informed of any of the special events with enough time to get them in the paper so the public has a chance to see what’s happening and make plans to join us.

We are fortunate to have the District Commander as a member of our Post and he also has some new and interesting ideas for the upcoming year. It will be his second year in this post, so he also brings experience to the table and we’re glad he is having another term of office.

Stop by the post and check out our calendar to see what events might be of interest to you. I bet you’ll be glad you did!
