Mountain Hawks Wrap Up Competitive Day vs. Drexel
BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Lehigh rowing team went to great lengths against Drexel on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on Saturday.
“It’s been a great day of racing,” said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. “I’m really excited about the effort our team put into today to build up against Saint Joseph’s last week. The Women’s Varsity Four was the standout crew of the day. They looked very sharp from start to finish. They took that, what we told them. ” focus on it and really do it, and I think their ability to focus and put things together on race day was why they came out on top. “
The Women’s Varsity Four achieved a time of 7: 22.6, ahead of Drexel B in second place (7: 25.59) and Drexel A in third place (7: 34.19).
Meanwhile, the Women’s Varsity Eight finished in 6: 50.84, behind a pair of Drexel boats and in front of one too. The men’s varsity eight had a time of 5: 56.73, behind Drexel A (5: 53.6) and in front of two other Drexel boats, which ended in 6: 10.27 and 6: 13.39 respectively.
“The men’s college had a great race,” said Conley. “For many of them it was the first ever college race. It was great to see them get on the water and go to great lengths to compete against a strong Drexel team. They ran about 1,700 meters, which is against Drexel great thing but we only have to finish the race if we do. “
The women’s team will be back in action next Saturday against Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The men and women will be deployed against Manhattan in Leonia, New Jersey on Sunday, April 18
