Just three days left to register for back-to-school event | News, Sports, Jobs
The summer holidays are just around the corner and the school year 2021/22 is just around the corner. To prepare parents and children, Lehigh Community Services has partnered with two local churches to ensure that school supplies for the next school year get into the hands they need most.
Registration for the back-to-school event started on June 28, with only three days left. Volunteers are encouraging families in Lehigh Acres to sign up for school supplies for students attending Kindergarten through Kindergarten 12.
Families can register with Lehigh Community Services in 201 Plaza Dr., Suite 3 from July 7th to 9th from 1pm to 4pm
Every registered child receives a backpack and school supplies. Parents must bring photo ID and proof of Lehigh Acres address. You will also be asked to provide the child’s name, the class they will be entering and the school.
“Volunteers will be on hand to distribute any backpack that comes with materials appropriate to the child’s grade level. Accessories include notebooks, erasers, rulers, highlighters, and folders. Every church also has volunteers who help for each location. “ Executive Director of Lehigh Community Services, said Carolyn Peplow.
According to Peplow, around 700 to 800 children are provided with school supplies every year.
“The event is made possible through our churches, corporations, and community efforts. Every year we write a letter to the community asking for donations. Local companies bring us supplies all year round and our contact person Kim Jacobs from AM Vets is our connection to the local dollar stores, who donate a lot of supplies for the children’s backpacks. “ Peplow explained.
