Robert DePaul Obituary (1936 – 2021) – Naperville, IL
Robert A. “Bob” DePaul, 85, a resident of Aurora, IL and formerly Naperville, IL, died on Saturday June 26, 2021 at Alden Gardens of Waterford, Aurora. He was born on April 8, 1936 in Reading, PA.
Beloved husband of 55 years of the late Anna R. “Anne” DePaul, whom he married on July 27, 1957 and who preceded him in death on June 26, 2012, loving father of Todd (Diane) DePaul of Montgomery, IL, Lynn ( Danny Hinkle, Jr.) DePaul of Montgomery, IL and Scott (Karen) DePaul of Oswego, IL, revered grandfather of Trent Hillier, Abigail, Madelyn and Samuel DePaul, devoted son of the late Samuel and Emma (née Perpetua) DePaul, fond uncle , Great-uncle and friend of many.
Bob graduated from Reading Senior High School in Reading, PA in 1954 and began training as a caster at Textile Machine Works in Wyomissing, PA. He received a certificate in engineering technology from the Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute. In 1958, Bob received a three-year scholarship from Textile Machine Works and went to Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, where he completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgy Engineering in 1961 and enrolled in Lehigh Graduate School in September 1961, receiving a Master of Degree in October 1963 Science from Lehigh University and a Ph.D. Graduated from Lehigh University in metallurgy in 1965. Bob accepted a position at the International Nickel Co. Research Center – Sterling Forest, Suffern, NY and moved to Sloatsburg, NY (while developing a new formula for stainless steel and patenting the freight forwarding industry ). In 1982 Bob accepted a position at Amoco’s research center and moved to Naperville (he worked in Amoco’s non-oil division which acquired similar businesses) and retired from Amoco in 1997.
Bob was a founder and owner of Classic Impressions, Inc. (2001-2016) and a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for over 25 years. He has also served on the following boards: Naperville Radio Watch (11 years, 1991-2002) and the Board of Directors of NorthStar Credit Union (9 years, 1998-2007).
On Saturday, July 10th, there will be a celebration of Bob’s life with a tour at 9:00 a.m. and a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 27 S. Edgelawn Dr., Aurora, IL 60506, (630 ) instead of. 897-6891.
