Mountain Hawks Unveil 2022 Men’s Lacrosse Schedule
BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – Lehigh’s men’s lacrosse head coach Kevin Cassese announced the Mountain Hawks’ schedule for 2022 Monday, which includes 13 games – eight Patriot League games and five outside of the league, highlighted by home games against the top 20 preseason opponents, Georgetown and Cornell. In total, the Mountain Hawks hit four teams in the top 18 of the recently published preseason poll by USA Lacrosse Magazine.
After a perfect Patriot League season and an NCAA tournament appearance in 2021, the Mountain Hawks will open two street competitions on consecutive Saturdays in 2022 – at NJIT (February 12) and Hobart (February 19). It will be Lehigh’s first game against Hobart since 2004.
Lehigh’s home opener is a big one with the Mountain Hawks welcoming Cornell in a preseason top 20 bout on Saturday, February 26th (Lehigh was ranked 11th by USA Lacrosse Magazine, while Cornell was ranked 18th landed). Senior Cole Kirst played two of his brothers in the NCAA tournament against Rutgers and faces another, CJ, who is sophomore with the Big Red.
March kicks off with the second of three home games in a row and the Patriot League opener against the Navy on Saturday 5th March. The Mountain Hawks then host Holy Cross on March 12, before traveling to Army West Point preseason No. 13 on March 19.
Lehigh is moving to non-league play for two in a row, starting with a huge home game against preseason number 4, Georgetown on Saturday March 26th. The Mountain Hawks will then play their first weekday game in Binghamton on Tuesday, March 29th.
The Mountain Hawks conclude the regular season with five Patriot League competitions in April, beginning Saturday April 2 at rival Lafayette, followed by a home game against Bucknell (April 10) on CBS Sports Network and a street showdown in Colgate on April 16 in a rematch of last season’s Patriot League semi-finals.
The following Saturday, April 23, Lehigh is hosting Boston University on Senior Day and Alumni Day before the regular season closes on Friday, April 29 in Loyola on CBS Sports Network. The showdown shows the finalists of the Patriot League a season ago.
The Mountain Hawks are leaving a game date open with the intention of filling that date in case other Division I games are canceled due to COVID-19 protocols and an opponent becomes available to play.
The Patriot League tournament begins with the quarter-finals on Tuesday, May 3rd, followed by the semi-finals on Friday, May 6th and the championship game on Sunday, May 8th.
