Hurly, Mountain Hawks Lead ABARTA Collegiate Invitational After Round One

HELLERTOWN, PA. – The Lehigh men’s golf team has an impressive round of 10 under par 278 at the top after the opening round of Lafayette’s ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational at the Steel Club on Sunday. All six Lehigh participants shot 77 or better on Sunday, led by a blistering six under par 66 from sophomore David Hurly, who is the individual 18-hole guide.

The Mountain Hawks are 13 strokes ahead of St. Bonaventure and Villanova in Monday’s finals.

Hurly, Lehigh’s minor player in each of the first two tournaments, picked up where he left off. From the 10th hole onwards, Hurly birded 12, 13, 17 and 18 to shoot 32 on his first nine holes. He screwed three more holes in his second nine and cornered the fifth hole in par 5. The only mistakes on Hurly’s round were a double bogey on two and a bogey on eight. Hurly is four-stroke ahead of six players, including classmates Sam Barton and Joey Dotta.

In Barton’s opening round 70, there were three birdies on his first nine holes and only one bogey, while Dotta recorded four birdies against two birdies.

Newcomer Edmund Broderick was the fourth Mountain Hawk to shoot par or better and card a straight par 72. Broderick’s round included four birdies. He is tied for 10th place.

Senior Owen Quinn shot 76 with three birdies in his round, finishing in 27th place. Newbie AJ ​​Gilpin made three birdies and shot 35 over his first nine holes before finishing with a 77 when he was in a tie for 38th place.

The 12-person ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational ends with the last round on Monday, which begins with the shotgun starting at 9:30 a.m.
