BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – One of the most highly decorated female students in the program’s history received what is perhaps her most formidable honor on Tuesday when PhD student Sondra Dickey was named third All-American team by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Associated (IWLCA). Dickey becomes the program’s first All-American since Lauren Dykstra was named to the third team in 2011.

“It’s a tremendous honor for our program,” said Lehigh’s head coach Jill Redfern. “It’s directly down to teammates who have encouraged Sondra to reach their full potential while bringing their own strengths to our outstanding team this season. It’s a great reminder of what is possible at Lehigh.”

Dickey was the winner of Lehigh Athletics’ Graduating Female Athlete Award and ended a historic career in a grand way in 2021. She was named Patriot League Midfielder of the Year while also winning the All-League first team for a third straight season. The three-time All-Region winner led the Mountain Hawks in a number of statistical categories including goals (44), points (52), ground balls (39), ball losses caused (41), and tie controls (53). Dickey generated 26 sales in their last six games – 15 in three Patriot League Tournament competitions – to earn All-Tournament Team Honors and become the program’s all-time record-holder for single-season sales.

Their 3.15 generated sales per game led the nation, while they finished 19th in Groundballs per competition (3.00). Dickey’s six Midfielder of the Week awards and seven overall awards in 2021 set a Patriot League record for one season, while her weekly awards in 15 careers are the most in league history. She was the first player in the program’s history in the top 10 for career goals (205), assists (57), points (262), ground balls (147), caused ball losses (118) and draw controls (252). Dickey holds the program record for generated sales and tie controls.

In late May, Dickey was also recognized as an Honorable Media All-American Mention by Inside Lacrosse.
