Thespina Gilbert Obituary (2021) – Bethlehem, PA

The family of Thespina S. Gilbert announces with a heavy heart and deep sadness that they fell asleep with the Lord on July 16, 2021. She died with her family in Boca Raton, Florida, at the age of 93. Born and raised in Bethlehem, PA, where she retired as an educator in the Bethlehem School District. Mrs. Gilbert, affectionately known as Tes, was loved and respected by fellow teachers and students alike. She graduated from Ryder College (’48) and Lehigh University (’52) with masters degrees. Tes preceded her parents, sister Rosemary Phillips, husbands James Stelyn and Vincent Gilbert, and son Rev. Matthew Gilbert in death. Her love for God through Christ was evident to all who knew her. As a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas, she made many believe and enriched others with her boundless love and generosity. It was the love and devotion of her son William that made the last three years of her life unforgettable by taking care of her health, visiting her family, celebrating vacations, and arranging nightly dinners. We will miss our mother and Yiayia who never forgot us or missed an opportunity to remember their loved ones by sending notes and greeting cards on every birthday, holiday, festival and anniversary. We will miss getting her loving notes. She leaves behind her sons John and William, daughter Judy, brother John, grandson, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and godson.

A visitation and memorial service will be held on July 24 from 9:00 am at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1607 W Union Blvd, Bethlehem, PA until the memorial service is at 10:00 am, followed by Trisagion at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, 1740 Airport Street, Allentown, PA. Services were also held in Boca Raton, FL on July 20. Expressions of condolences can be made at www.connellfuneral.com.
