BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sixteen Lehigh wrestlers will be back on the mats this weekend at USA Wrestling’s U20 and U23 World Team Trials at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. Freestyle competition begins Saturday morning with the start of the U20 challenge tournament and concludes Sunday afternoon with the U23 finals.

The Lehigh contingent features a trio of 2022 NCAA qualifiers, two others who competed at the EIWA Championships, and six wrestlers who deferred eligibility during the 2021-22 season.

Just two of the 16, Sheldon Seymour (57kg) and Carter Bailey (61kg) will be competing in the U20 Trials, bidding for the right to represent the United States at the UWW U20 World Championships in August in Sofia, Bulgaria.

The U23 contingent includes NCAA qualifiers Connor McGonagle (61kg), Max Brignola (70kg) and AJ Burkhart (86kg) plus Lehigh’s Deferred Eligibility Wrestler of the Year Nathan Taylor (125kg).

Winners in the U23 division are not yet guaranteed a spot on the world team but could still have the opportunity to compete at the U23 World Championships in October in Pontevedra, Spain.
