Edward R. Cope, 83, of Deer Lake, passed away Friday, June 3rd, at Geisinger St. Luke’s Orwigsburg surrounded by his family.

Edward was born on December 23, 1938, a son of the late Floy (Evans) and Edward Stewart Cope.

Education was very important to him. He graduated from Frackville High School, Class of 1956. He went on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from Kutztown University, Lehigh University and Bucknell University. His entire career was spent within the Blue Mountain School District as a teacher, Elementary East school principal and School Board Member. Following his retirement, he spent the next 14 years volunteering at the school district. No matter where he went he would always run into his former students and enjoyed catching up with them.

He lived in Frackville during the time he was married to his first wife, Jane (Kellett) Cope, who passed away in 1989. Later, when he then married his second wife, Cynthia (Hunt) Cope he moved to Deer Lake. North of the mountain he was known as Bob Cope, while south of the mountain he was Ed Cope.

Ed was also the Judge of Elections in Deer Lake for a period of time. He was also a past President of the Hillside SPCA.
He loved the Blue Mountain School District, cooking, gardening, bird watching, spending time at his summer home in Honesdale, his pets, nature and being outdoors. He had fond memories of spending his summers in Gilberton, PA on Quality Hill. He will also be remembered for his wit and sarcasm, as well as a few cuss words.

In addition to Cindy, his wife of 31 years, Ed is survived by his daughter, Debi, wife of Jim Swantek; his son, Robert Cope, husband of Ruth. Edward is also survived by his grandchildren Josh, James, David, Leslie, Jennifer, Kevin, Chelsey, Steven, Caitlain and Jason. His great grandchildren are Leland, Ellias, Orion, Maverick, Lyra and Idalia. He was also expecting his seventh great grandchild. He is also survived by his cousins.

Jane Metcalf, 58, of Shenandoah, passed away Saturday, June 4th, 2022 at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown.

Jane was born in Shenandoah Heights on April 18, 1964, a daughter of the late Jean (McCole) and Frank Savitsky, Sr.

Jane was raised in Brandonville, a graduate of the West Hazleton high school and she attended the former Polish National Church in Shenandoah.

Aside from being a homemaker and a wonderful cook, she loved horses, working in various equestrian centers in Pennsylvania, including Eagle Rock, Ringtown and the Pocono Downs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Savitsky and Frank Savitsky, Jr.; and by sisters, Patsy Savitsky, Jeannie Savitsky and Connie Sincavage.

She is survived by her companion of 27 years, Alex Martin, of Shenandoah and by her children: son, Denny Metcalf, and his wife Melisa, of Ringtown; daughter Melissa, wife of Zackary Miller ,of Shenandoah; daughter Monica Metcalf, of Shenandoah Heights; daughter Stephanie, wife of David Gottshall, of Ashland; son Damin Metcalf, with Sabrina Hussein ,of Shenandoah; and son Alex Martin, Jr., of Shenandoah.

Jane was like a mom to all of her children’s friends and those who knew her best.

She is also survived by her eight grandchildren, all of whom were her life and she loved dearly: Mckenzie, Colton, Calie, Ariyah, Nataliya, Hunter, Rory and Alexandria.

Her twin sister, Joan Savitsky of Brandonville also survives as do nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jane’s life will take place by her family and friends at a time to be announced in the near future.

John E. Lloyd, 82, former Ashland resident, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Lehigh Valley Hospital, East Norwegian St. Pottsville.

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.
