Lehigh Welcomes La Salle Tuesday Night In Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s soccer team is happy to be home. After playing their first three games of 2022 on the road, the Mountain Hawks will finally return to the Ulrich Sports Complex to battle La Salle Tuesday at 6 pm The Mountain Hawks are hoping their home debut can spark a side that has dropped their first three matches of the season.

Lehigh enters his home opener looking to bounce back from a 5-0 loss at St. John’s Friday night. The Red Storm’s Antek Sienkiel netted a hat trick as St. John’s scored three times in the game’s first half hour and added two more in the second half.

The Mountain Hawks are still looking for their first goal of the season. Senior Jack Sarkos has a team-high six shots while sophomore Perry Kingson and first-year Gennaro Mazzella both have four.

Sophomore Ryan Gross and first-year Tommy Chyzowych have split time in goal with both keepers playing 135 minutes thus far. Both keepers have allowed four goals, with Chyzowych stopping 10 shots and Gross recording two saves.

Lehigh was 3-6-1 at the Ulrich Sports Complex in 2021.

La Salle enters Tuesday’s match at 1-1-1. The Explorers opened their season with a 5-3 victory over Stonehill, then lost 3-0 to St. Francis Brooklyn before playing Manhattan to a 1-1 draw on Friday.

Omari Cotterell leads La Salle with two goals, and is tied with Justin Brunow for the team lead with five points. Brunow has a goal and three assists.

The Explorers have used three different goalkeepers in their three games. Valentin Kneis started against Manhattan and made two saves.

La Salle leads the all-time series 16-9-3. Lehigh and La Salle have not met since 2013, where the Explorers picked up a 3-0 win in Philadelphia. The Mountain Hawks’ last win in the series came by a 3-1 score in 1995.

Tuesday night’s match will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Following Tuesday’s match, Lehigh will return to the road to face Penn State, Monday, Sept. 12 at 7 pm
