Lehigh to take on Defending Patriot League Champions on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s basketball team will head to Washington, DC for the third time in two seasons when the Mountain Hawks take on the American Eagles, who are the defending Patriot League Champions, Saturday at 2 pm at Bender Arena.

Lehigh comes into this game after dropping a tough one, at Holy Cross 66-64 on Wednesday. The Mountain Hawks have an overall record of 7-9 this season. American is 2-3 in league play and is 3-13 overall. The Eagles are on a three-game losing streak.

Ella Stemmer is coming off of a breakout performance. The sophomore finished with a career-high of 22 points, and was 6-of-10 from downtown against Holy Cross.

Frannie Hottinger led Lehigh with 23 points. Hottinger was just three rebounds away from recording her 10th double-double of the season. Hottinger is currently tied for ninth in the NCAA in double-doubles. The Minnesota native has scored in double-figures in 15 games out of 16 games played.

The Mountain Hawks are 16-36 all time against the Eagles. American won both games last year on its home court after Lehigh had to postpone the originally scheduled league-opener. Lehigh swept the Eagles during the 2021 season.

American’s most recent game was against Army, where the Eagles fell 77-56. Lehigh defeated Army in the league opener, coming away with a 90-68 victory over the Black Knights.

The Eagles are led by Emily Johns, who is averaging 13.5 points.

Lehigh comes into Saturday’s game as the league leaders in scoring, averaging 72.6 points per game. American is last in the league in scoring defense, giving up 71.3 points per game and the Eagles are sixth in scoring (57.3 points per game).

Saturday’s game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
