James Wins Player of the Week

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women’s tennis junior Junmoke James was named the Patriot League Women’s Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday morning.

James has played a crucial role in the Mountain Hawks’ season so far. The junior went undefeated in singles play during spring break, securing three huge wins at the No. 2 spot.

She picked up wins against George Mason, South Carolina State and Loyola during the week. James defeated George Mason’s Hannah Yang 6-2, 6-4 in Lehigh’s first match of spring break. Against SC State, James picked up wins in both doubles and singles. Alongside with partner Hamsa Javagal, the duo defeated SC State’s Teodora Vujicic and Lasya Patnaik 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.

The Mountain Hawks opened up league play on Saturday at Loyola Maryland. James continued her winning streak, picking up wins in both doubles and singles play. She defeated Loyola’s Olivia Tracey and Anna Rico with Javagal in the first flight. In singles play, James picked up her third win of the week against Lauren Manwiller, defeating her 6-3, 6-2.

James has been a key contributor for Lehigh over the past three years. She finished the shortened 2020-21 season with a 4-4 record in singles and a 4-3 record in doubles.

The junior will look to lead her team to another win on Saturday as the Mountain Hawks travel to Navy for their second league match of the season. Lehigh will return home on Sunday to host Colgate at 10 am
