HAMILTON, NY – Sophomore Quinn Armstrong evened the score with 19 seconds remaining to force overtime, but Colgate responded at 1:31 of overtime to hand the No. 20 Lehigh men’s lacrosse team a tough 9-8 defeat on Saturday. The loss snapped the Mountain Hawks’ 16-game winning streak against Patriot League opponents, handing Lehigh its first league defeat since 2019.

Senior Tommy Schelling led the offense with three goals and two assists, good for his fourth straight game with five points. Armstrong added two fourth-quarter goals, as the only other multi-goal scorer. Senior Cole Kirst also scored his 50th career goal.

Reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Teddy Leggett had two groundballs and caused turnover, as the Mountain Hawks’ D held Colgate scoreless for a stretch of 31:14, including the entire second and third quarters.

After Schelling opened the scoring at the 11:45 mark of the first quarter, Colgate responded with the next two and five of the next seven. There were two Lehigh goals sprinkled in between – Schelling’s second and Kirst on a feed from Schelling. The Raiders scored three times in the final 2:58 of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead into the second.
