BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team defeated Loyola Maryland 5-2 in Baltimore on Saturday to secure its first league win of the season.
The Mountain Hawks got off to a hot start in Baltimore, winning two doubles matches to secure the 1-0 lead. Sophomores Anushka and Megha Dania picked up their seventh doubles win of the season after defeating Lauren Manwiller and Jessica Bodewes 7-6 (7-4) in the second flight. Junior Junmoke James and first-year Hamsa Javagal won at the No. 1 spot, defeating Loyola’s Olivia Travey and Anna Rico 6-3.
Lehigh continued to bring the heat, winning four singles matches to secure the 5-2 victory. At the No. 1 spot, Javagal defeated Olivia Travey 6-0, 7-5 to secure her sixth win of the season. James continued her hot streak from spring break, picking up her third straight singles win this season.
The Dania duo both picked up wins during singles play in Baltimore. Megha defeated Anna Rico at the No. 3 spots 6-1, 7-5. Anushka defeated Loyola’s Jessica Bodewes 6-2, 6-3 in the fourth flight. The duo picked up their respective fifth singles wins of the season.
The Mountain Hawks will head back to Bethlehem to prepare for two matches next weekend. Lehigh will travel to Navy on March 26 and will host Colgate on Sunday, March 27.
