Lehigh to Make NCAA Tournament Debut Against Delaware Wednesday in North Carolina

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After winning its first Patriot League title since 1994 on Saturday, the Lehigh field hockey team learned the site and opponent for its first-ever NCAA Tournament game Sunday evening. The Mountain Hawks are headed to Chapel Hill, NC to face Delaware in an opening round game Wednesday at 2 pm at North Carolina’s Karen Shelton Stadium.
The Mountain Hawks defeated Boston University 2-1 in overtime Saturday to win the Patriot League championship, with sophomore Guusje Hogendoorn scoring the game-winner 7:14 into overtime. Lehigh enters the NCAA Tournament with a 13-7 record. The Mountain Hawks have won five of their last six games and 11 of their last 13.
Delaware (9-11) won its fourth consecutive Colonial Athletic Association title on Sunday with a 6-1 win over Drexel.
Wednesday’s game will mark the 23rd all-time meeting between Lehigh and Delaware but the first since 1999.
The winner of Wednesday’s opening round game will face No. 1 overall seed North Carolina in the first round Friday at noon.
