BETHLEHEM, Pennsylvania – The Lehigh men’s golf team kicks off the fall season six fall competitions this weekend at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colgate Saturday and Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club in Hamilton, NY, as the schedule returns to normal, after Lehigh was only able to play last spring.

Coach Henry D’Alberto is entering his 16th season with a squad of 10 players. Six players are returning from the spring and two more are returning after missing out on the spring season. The Mountain Hawks lost just one player from last year’s roster, Owen Quinn, who averaged 74.25 in nearly five seasons.

The highlight of the spring season for the Mountain Hawks was a week of leading a 13-team field to win Lafayette’s ABARTA Collegiate Invitational, the program’s first tournament win in nearly four years, and later that week defeating the Leopards in match play to recapture the presidential cup.

Lehigh finished sixth in the Patriot League Championship, with Sam Barton leading the way. Barton crowned his second season by winning the first-team All-Patriot League awards, finishing third with 221 (77-71-73). The 2021-22 Mountain Hawks roster does not include seniors, but five juniors: Barton, David Hurly and Joey Dotta, as well as Alex Aurora and Daniel Song, who released last spring. Other returnees are the runner-up Marco Arosemena, Edmund Broderick and AJ Gilpin. Two newcomers have also joined the program, with Aidan Oehrle and Jahan Bains slated to debut at Colgate this weekend.

The Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational takes place on the 6,834-yard, par-72 course at Seven Oaks. The Mountain Hawks regularly attend the event, which historically has 54 holes, 36 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday.

Lehigh’s line-up for the Alex Lagowitz Invitational is expected to include Hurly, Barton, Song, Broderick, Oehrle and Bains.

The tournament field includes 12 teams: Bucknell, Colgate, Cornell, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh, Rhode Island, Rider, Seton Hall, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Villanova and Yale. Colgate and Seton Hall will compete in two teams. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.

Next weekend Lehigh will play at the St. John’s Doc Gimmler Tournament in Farmingdale, NY. The President’s Cup match play event with Lafayette is scheduled for September 28th.

In October, the one-day Columbia Autumn Invitational takes place in New York on October 11, before Lehigh hosts his annual invitation at Saucon Valley Country Club from October 22-23. The fall season ends at the Daniel Island Invitational in Charleston Southern, October 31st-November. 1.
