VFW Post 4174: Make it memorable! | News, Sports, Jobs

Monday, May 31st, is Remembrance Day. In honor of those who fell, we will hoist our half-cast flags by noon according to the rest of the nation. We also find many different ways to recognize this day. For some, it is a time to remember a son, daughter, sister, brother, or parent who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country. For others, it is an opportunity to show our appreciation to those who are gone, even if we may not have known them. It is also a time to show all of our veterans from all of our various military branches that we have nothing but the utmost respect for them and what they have done for us.

There are many festivals scattered across the country. Some of the celebrations are very solemn events while others revolve around picnics, days off, and school holidays. It is important to remember the real reason of the day, which is to honor those who served in the military, especially those who did not return to their homes.

A service will be held in the Memorial Gardens on Route 82 starting at 10 a.m. with all the pomp that the military has done on many occasions. Finally, everyone is invited to a picnic at Post 4174 at 25 Homestead Road. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, beans, desserts and are offered for the price of a donation. If you have any questions, call the Post at 239-369-5100 for the information you need.

This year it will be an even bigger distinction than it has been in previous years as we begin to slowly recover from last year’s remoteness. As we are able to gather more, it is only fitting that we should come up in record numbers to remind everyone that despite all the trials and tribulations that might get in our way, we are a united nation, always were and always will be.

We owe it to those who went before us to remember their sacrifice, honor their life, and make this a memorable day of remembrance. We are glad to welcome you!
