Redwood Elementary School students name Avon Lake eagles: Short Takes on Avon, Avon Lake and North Ridgeville

Avon Lake, Ohio

Students at Redwood Elementary School have chosen names for the eaglets in the nest behind their school. After first nominating more than 60 name combinations and then a school-wide vote, the winning names are Courage and Spirit.

Courage and Spirit are getting ready to fly away from the nest at Redwood Elementary School in Avon Lake.

Eagle parents Stars and Stripes welcomed three eggs into the nest at the school in March, but only two of three survived.

Other names considered included Raptor and Talon, Spangled and Banner, Soar and Flight, Flapper and Wing; and Yankee and Doodle.

A new life-size, 7-ft wingspan wooden eagle was recently installed on the fence around the nest at the school ideal for photo opportunities. School is out for the summer in Avon Lake so eagle watchers can now visit the nest at any time during the day, 32967 Redwood Blvd. The Eagle Cam is available live 24/7 to watch the eagles, go to youtube.com/watch?v=fAC1iqmfUc4.
