Pineda’s Top 10 Paces Mountain Hawks at Kingsmill Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Lehigh women’s golf team battled through more cold, windy conditions on the final day of the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, Tuesday at the Kingsmill Resort River Course. The Mountain Hawks battled to a final round 330 and finished the 54-hole event in 10th place out of 14 teams with a final score of 956 (315-311-330).

First-year Madison Pineda delivered another top 10 individual finish to lead the Mountain Hawks. Pineda’s final round 81 was the low round for Lehigh Tuesday as she tied for ninth place at 233 (79-73-81).

Sophomore Meghna Grover and junior Hannah Foster tied for 35th place at 240. Grover shot 82 Tuesday to go 79-79-82 over her three rounds, while Foster shot 84 to go 77-79-84. Both players made one birdie over their final 18 holes Tuesday.

Sophomore Sophia Taverna turned in a final round 83 and finished at 248 (80-85-83) to tie for 60th place.

First-year Mia Scarpati turned in an 84 Tuesday, that included a birdie on her next-to-last hole of the day. Scarpati finished in 71st place at 258 (94-80-84).

Delaware captured the team title with a final score of 911 (302-306-303). The Blue Hens topped host William & Mary by nine strokes, while Longwood finished third, 22 strokes off the pace.

Oihana Etxezarreta from Delaware led wire-to-wire to win individual medalist honors at one under par 215 (72-70-73). She posted a five stroke victory over Emma Lu of William & Mary.

The Mountain Hawks will be back on the course this weekend at the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, Saturday-Sunday in Grasonville, Md. The tournament will be Lehigh’s final tune-up before the Patriot League Championship, April 15-17 in Annapolis, Md.
