Oehrle Shoots 64, Leading Strong Sunday For Mountain Hawks At The Doc Gimmler

FARMINGDALE, NY – The Lehigh men’s golf team posted its second straight under par round, cementing a strong finish at The Doc Gimmler, Sunday on the Red Course at Bethpage State Park. Three players shot in the 60s as Lehigh posted a team total of nine under par 271, to finish the 54 hole event in a tie for fifth out of 15 teams at 832 (288-273-271).

Sophomore Aidan Oehrle turned in the low round of the day in the 86-player field, shooting six under par 64. Oehrle carded eight birdies and two bogeys, including a scalding six birdies on the front nine. He moved up to a tie for 19th place at three under par 207 (72-71-64).

Lehigh’s top finisher was senior David Hurly, who carded his third straight round in the 60s to finish in a tie for ninth place at seven under par 203 (68-67-68). Hurly made three birdies in his final round 68.

Junior Edmund Broderick was the third Mountain Hawk in the 60s on Sunday, making five birdies on the way to a 68. Four of Broderick’s five birdies came in his final six holes. He tied for 36th place at 211 (75-68-68).

First-year Jake Roth also birdied four of his last six holes in a final round 71 to tie for 52nd place at 215 (77-67-71).

Sophomore Jahan Bains shot 74 with one birdie on Sunday and finished in 81st place at 225 (73-78-74).

Competing as an individual, senior Sam Barton posted the fourth round in the 60s for a Lehigh player Sunday. Barton made three birdies and in a final round 68 and tied for 57th place at 216 (72-76-68).

Harvard won the team title at 33 under par 807 (264-273-270) to edge host St. John’s by one stroke.

UConn’s Jared Nelson was the individual medalist at 15 under par 195 (63-67-65). He beat Samir Davidov by three strokes.

The Mountain Hawks will next play at Binghamton’s Matthews Auto Intercollegiate in Apalachin, NY, Oct. 2-3
