COLUMBUS, Ohio – Battling a ranked foe in the final game of its road trip, Lehigh dropped a 4-0 final to No. 22 Ohio State Sunday at Buckeye Varsity Field. Ohio State scored a goal in each quarter to improve to 3-0 on the season, while Lehigh falls to 1-3.

The Mountain Hawks played the Buckeyes evenly through most of the first quarter. Each side earned a penalty corner in the latter part of the period, but it was the home team capitalizing as Leanne Bough scored directly off the corner, with assists from Delaney Lawler and Emma Goldean, to put Ohio State up 1-0 with just over two minutes left in the quarter.

Cameryn Forgash doubled Ohio State’s lead in the 27th minute with an assist to Goldean. The Mountain Hawks trailed 2-0 at halftime with Ohio State holding a 6-4 edge in shots and Lehigh leading 3-2 in penalty corners.

Zella Bailey tipped in a Makenna Webster pass for Ohio State’s third goal in the 41st minute and Claudia Thomas capped the scoring in the 52nd minute on a feed from Webster.

Ohio State picked up its offense in the second half, out-shooting Lehigh 15-2 after halftime to finish with a 21-6 edge for the game. Senior Sarah Bonthuis led Lehigh with three shots, including both shots in the fourth quarter. Senior Sydney White was credited with the Mountain Hawks’ lone shot on goal.

In goal, senior Maddie Kahn made 10 saves, eight of which came in the second half.

“We improved today,” Lehigh head coach Caitlin Dallmeyer said. “We played hard and maintained a high work rate for all four quarters. They increased pressure in the second half which frazzled us at times but fortunately Maddie Kahn was able to make some key saves to allow us to stay competitive under immense pressure. We stayed composed and focused on the game plan as we had designed it.

“We also had some strong performances today from first-years, Kiki Mes and Maddie Kandra,” Dallmeyer continued. “They both had their season-best performances and it was exciting to see the comfort building with experience as they developed confidence in game play.”

The Mountain Hawks are back home for two games next weekend. Lehigh will host La Salle Friday at 6 pm at Ulrich Field and will then face Wagner Sunday at 11 am Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
