Mountain Hawks Heading to Annapolis for Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The men’s track and field team will head to Annapolis, Md. to compete at the Patriot League Championships. The two-day meet, hosted by Navy, is one of the final meets on the Mountain Hawks’ schedule for the 2022 outdoor season.

The women’s 10k will kick off the competition on Friday at 9 am On the track, the men will race at 9:45 am in the 10k. In the field, men’s hammer will begin at 11:30 am and men’s pole vault will begin at 2:30 pm The decathlon will begin at 11 am on Friday with the 100m and will end at 4:15 pm with the 400m. Competition on Friday will end at 5:10 pm with the men’s 4×800.

Saturday’s track events will begin at 1:10 pm with the women’s steeplechase and will end at 5:30 pm with the 4×400. In the field, men’s shot put will begin at 12:30 pm and triple jump will begin at 1 pm. The decathlon will begin at 8:45 am on Saturday with the 110m hurdles and will end at 4:20 pm with the 1500m.

Sprints / Mid distance
Lehigh’s sprinters and mid-distance runners had a solid outdoor season and are looking to have a successful weekend in Annapolis. Senior Harrison Ernst ended the month of April with two huge PRs in both the 200m and 400m. At the Bison Outdoor Classic, Ernst finished the 400m with a PR of 49.93. The following weekend at the Coach P Invitational he earned another PR, this time in the 200m, finishing with a time of 22.87.

Junior Andrew Roman is another member of Lehigh’s sprints group who had solid performances in the month of April. At the Lafayette dual meet, Roman earned personal records in both the 100m (11.18) and 200m (22.82). He finished second in the 200m and third in the 100m against the Leopards.

On the mid-distance side, senior Kyle Burke is making his final year at Lehigh count. During the outdoor season, Burke broke two school records to a total of six school records in the 2021-22 season. At the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, Pa. Burke broke school records in both the 800m (1:49.76) and 1500m (3:44.57). The following week, he broke his own school record in the 800m at the Virginia Classic, winning the race with a time of 1:48.45.

Distance
The Mountain Hawks’ distance group found success at the indoor Patriot League Championships in Lewisburg and are looking to replicate that success this weekend in Annapolis.

Lehigh’s distance medley relay team won the event in February at Bucknell. Burke and juniors Jacob Martinez, Brandtson Duffie and Kerem Ayhan were members of the first-place relay team.

Graduate students Bradford DeMassa and Seth Slavin made their final seasons at Lehigh count this outdoor season. At the Coach P Invitational in April, DeMassa won the 5000m with a season-best time of 15:28.25. Slavin had an impressive month of April, earning PRs in both the 5000m and 10k. At the Lafayette Dual Meet, he won the 5000m with a PR of 14:51.43. The following week at the Bison Outdoor Classic, Slavin earned a new PR in the 10k (30:24.48).

jumps
The Mountain Hawks’ jumpers are another group that had impressive performances at the indoor championships at Bucknell. Junior Ian Scott finished second in the triple jump with an indoor PR of 14.62m at the championships in February. First-year Skyler Mott also had solid performances at the championships in Lewisburg. Mott earned indoor personal records in both the high jump (1.97m) and triple jump (13.20m).

In the pole vault, Louis Logsdail finished the indoor season with a personal record of 4.70m to secure his seventh place finish in the Patriot League Championship. At the Virginia Challenge, Logsdail earned a new outdoor PR, finishing 11th with a mark of 4.51m.

throws
Lehigh’s throwers have had a phenomenal outdoor season this year, finishing every outdoor meet with at least two personal records. The Mountain Hawks’ first-years have had solid performances in the javelin this year. At the Coach P Invitational, Hunter Rodarmel secured Lehigh’s best javelin mark of the season, placing fourth with a mark of 55.19m.

At the Carol and John Covert Classic, Greg Stagliano and Liam Campiglia both wrapped up the regular season on a high note. Stagliano finished the javelin and discus with respective personal records of 51.83 and 32.21m. Campiglia earned personal records in the javelin (51.07m), discus (28.36m) and shot put (9.67m).

Achilles Mouzakis had a solid sophomore season for the Mountain Hawks. Early in the season, Mouzakis won the hammer throw at the Lafayette Dual with a personal record throw of 52.80m. In the final meet of the regular season, he earned a second personal record in the discus as well (41.19m).

multinationals
Lehigh’s first-years have had solid performances as multis during the outdoor season. At the Bison Outdoor Classic, Gideon Coprivnicar made his decathlon debut for the Mountain Hawks. He finished seventh overall with 5657 points, making him tenth all-time in Lehigh history.

Fellow first-year Jack Murphy joined Coprivnicar in the decathlon at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Murphy finished 14th overall with 5138 points.
