Mountain Hawks Finish Lehigh Invitational With Winning Records

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women’s tennis team hosted its first event of the fall season on Saturday and Sunday. The Mountain Hawks faced Army West Point, Colgate and Saint Joseph’s at the Lehigh Invitational. Lehigh tallied nine singles wins and two doubles wins in the hidden dual format.

The Mountain Hawks opened up the weekend by going 4-3 in singles against Colgate. Senior Junmoke James got the win at the No. 2 flight while juniors Megha Dania and Anushka Dania secured wins at the fourth and fifth flight, respectively. First-year Helena Cilella picked up her first win on the Ulrich Varsity Courts in the sixth flight.

After competing in singles against Colgate, Lehigh went on to battle Army in doubles. The Mountain Hawks went 0-3 against the Black Knights before moving back to singles play against Saint Joseph’s.

Against the Hawks, Lehigh closed out Saturday’s competition with a 4-3 record in singles. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal earned a win at the No. 1 spot while James picked up her second singles win of the weekend at the No. 2 spot. First-year Avery Hopkey defeated Saint Joseph’s Anna Kirk in the third flight and Anushka Dania closed out Saturday with a win in the fifth flight.

Lehigh opened up the final day of competition on Sunday in doubles against Colgate. The Dania twins picked up an 8-4 win for the Mountain Hawks against Colgate. Following doubles against the Raiders, Lehigh went on to play Army in singles where Megha Dania defeated Army’s Isabella Brilliant 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth flight.

To finish off the weekend, the Mountain Hawks competed against Saint Joseph’s in doubles. The Dania twins picked up Lehigh’s final win of the weekend in the second flight, defeating Saint Joseph’s Emily Elliott and Anna Kirk 8-4.

Lehigh will head to West Point, NY next weekend to compete in the Army Invitational. Competition will begin on Friday, Sept. 23 and wrap up on Sunday, Sept. 25.
