BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off a win over Lafayette Tuesday in the annual President’s Cup matches at Hamilton Farm Golf Club, the Lehigh men’s golf team will host its annual Fall Invitational, Friday and Saturday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club. The Mountain Hawks welcome 13 other teams to Saucon Valley for the two-day, 36-hole event, which will serve as Lehigh’s fourth tournament of the fall.

Saucon Valley Country Club, founded in 1920, has grown from 18 holes and a clubhouse to become one of the largest private clubs in North America. It encompasses 800 acres and consists of four courses, including the Weyhill Course, Old Course, Grace Course and Short Course. The Grace Course opened with nine holes in the fall of 1953 with the second nine opened for play in 1958. Named for Eugene Gifford Grace (Lehigh Class of 1899), longtime president and chairman of Bethlehem Steel, the Grace Course measures 7,051 yards from the championship tees and features greens nearly twice the size of those on the Old Course but without the severe contours.

On Tuesday, Lehigh retained the President’s Cup with a 12.5-7.5 match-play victory over Lafayette. First-years Jake Roth and Will Caronchi led the way, going undefeated in both doubles and singles play to ensure Lehigh would hold the cup for a third straight year.

In its last tournament action, Lehigh won Binghamton’s Matthews Auto Intercollegiate, topping a 10-team field Oct. 2-3 in Apalachin, NY All six Lehigh entrants finished in the top six, including senior Daniel Song who finished second while competing as an individual and went on to earn Patriot League Golfer of the Week honors.

Last year, Lehigh finished fifth out of 14 teams at the Lehigh Invitational, with Sam Barton leading the way with a third-place finish.

All 10 Mountain Hawks on the roster are expected to play this weekend.

The 14-team field includes Binghamton, Bryant, Fairfield, Fordham, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Iona, Monmouth, Lafayette, Lehigh, Rider, St. John’s, Siena and Towson.

Friday’s opening round tee times begin at 8:30 am, while Saturday’s final round tee times will begin at 8 am Lehigh will play with Towson and St. John’s in round one with their tee times beginning at noon.
