Lehigh Tied For Third After Opening Round of Patriot League Championship

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – With all six entrants shooting between 73 and 78, the Lehigh men’s golf team opened the Patriot League Championship with a first round score of 297 Friday at the Steel Club. Junior Daniel Song led the way, shooting one over par 73 as the Mountain Hawks ended day one of the three-day event in a tie for third place with Holy Cross, three strokes behind co-leaders Loyola and Lafayette.
Song’s opening round including four birdies, including three in his final five holes as part of a 33 on the back nine. He is tied for seventh place after round one.
Junior Sam Barton and first-year Jahan Bains are tied for 10th place after shooting 74 on Friday. Both players made two birdies in first round action, while Bains also made an eagle on the par 5 ninth hole.
Junior David Hurly and first-year Aidan Oehrle both shot 76 and are tied for 18th place. Hurly matched Song with four birdies, while Oehrle made two birdies in his opening round.
Sophomore Edmund Broderick is tied for 34th place following an opening round 78.
Lafayette’s Ryan Tall shot three under par 69 to take the 18 hole individual lead by two strokes over Christian Emmerich of Holy Cross. Tall and Emmerich were the only two players to shoot under par Friday, while four others shot even par 72.
Round two of the Patriot League Championship is set for Saturday at the Steel Club. Lehigh will be playing in the final six groups with Lafayette and Loyola with tee times beginning at 9:48 am
