Lehigh Set to Host Angry Birds Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off of a month-long break for final exams and holidays, the Lehigh men’s track and field team will continue its indoor season at the Angry Birds Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 14. The Mountain Hawks will host Sacred Heart at Rauch Fieldhouse with action being at 11:30 am

Saturday’s meet will be the second of three home meets for Lehigh this season. Back in December, the Mountain Hawks opened up the season by hosting their annual Fast Times Before Finals meet on Dec. 2-3 Lehigh finished its first meet of the season by winning nine events and adding two to the top ten all-time list.

The Mountain Hawks opened up the two day meet by winning the pole vault and weight throw. Junior Conor Reilly was the first member of the Lehigh men’s track and field team to pick up a win, winning the pole vault with a mark of 4.70m. Junior Achilles Mouzakis won the second event of the weekend for Lehigh, winning the weight throw with a mark of 16.26m.

Lehigh continued to exceed expectations on Saturday, winning seven events to close out the two-day competition. Sophomore Liam Lovering won the first event of the day, winning the shot put with a mark of 15.53m.

In the jumps, senior Ian Scott picked up his first win of the season, winning the long jump with a mark of 6.70m.

On the track, the Mountain Hawks continued to succeed, winning five of the seven events. Senior Douglas Cooke picked up his first win of the weekend in the 400m, finishing with a time of 51.37. Junior Daniel Stipanov won the second sprints events for Lehigh, winning the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.47.

Lehigh’s middle distance runners finished the weekend with convincing wins on the track. In the 800m, senior Brandtson Duffie won the event with a time of 1:56.09. The Mountain Hawks went on to win the 4×800 with senior Jacob Martinez, sophomore Ethaan Hood and first-years Henry Burd and Max Leffler making up the relay team.

The Mountain Hawks finished the meet with an exciting win in the 4×400 relay. Cooke, alongside fellow seniors Amondo Lemmon and Drew Roman and sophomore Patrez Thomas, were all members of the first-place relay team that finished with a time of 3:27.98.
