Lehigh Secures First League Win of Season, Defeats Loyola 6-1

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Lehigh men’s tennis team picked up its first league win of the season on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks traveled to Baltimore and defeated Loyola Maryland 6-1 to improve to 5-5 this season.

Lehigh got off to a hot start, sweeping doubles and securing the 1-0 lead going into singles play. Senior Zack Elliott and junior Steven Nazaroff picked up a win in the No. 1 spot. In the second flight, senior Gary Fishkin and first-year Marc Blekhman secured their third win of the season in doubles. The duo defeated Loyola’s Edik Pribitkin and Matt Cardano 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, sophomore Michael Bukhalo and first-year Luke Donovan grabbed their first doubles win of the season, defeating Loyola’s duo 6-1.

The Mountain Hawks were able to keep the momentum going into singles play, with five of Lehigh’s six student-athletes picking up wins. Elliott defeated Loyola’s Skyler Gates 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Blekhman secured his fourth singles win of the year against Edik Pribitkin. The first-year defeated Pribitkin in the second flight 7-5, 7-6(2).

At the No. 4 spot, Fishkin grabbed his seventh win of the season, defeating Loyola’s George Cavo 6-3, 6-0. Bukhalo secured the win for Lehigh on Saturday, defeating Liam Rompere 6-3, 6-4 in the fifth flight. Sophomore Jordan Paul was the final Mountain Hawk to grab a win on Saturday. Paul defeated Ryan Boland from Loyola 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 6 spot.

Lehigh will return home to Bethlehem for its final match of the weekend. The Mountain Hawks will host Villanova at 10:30 am on Sunday.
