Lehigh Prepared for First Two-Meet Weekend of the Season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Coming off of its dominating 70-29 win over Sacred Heart at the Angry Birds Invitational, the Lehigh women’s track and field team will compete in its first two-meet weekend of the season. While some of the Mountain Hawks will compete at the Villanova Invitational at the OceanBreeze Complex in Staten Island, NY others will attend the Moravian Indoor Meet, which will be hosted by Moravian inside Rauch Fieldhouse.

Last time out, Lehigh claimed 13 first-place finishes in its second home meet of the season. Leading the way for the Mountain Hawks was first-year Laura Reigle, who claimed her second consecutive first-place finish of the season. Reigle earned her second Patriot League Rookie of the Week award for her win last Saturday.

Lehigh continued to shine in the field events as the team claimed three more first-place finishes. The Mountain Hawks swept the throws events with senior Emma Harrington (14.11m) winning the weight throw and first-year Grace Aggen winning the shot put (11.55m). Junior Kerry Perna won the final field event of the day for Lehigh, winning the high jump with a mark of 1.55m.

Mountain Hawks continued to dominate on the track, finishing first in all nine events. Graduate student Martina Sell secured Lehigh’s first win of the day, winning the 5000m with a time of 18:46.56. In the mile, sophomore Maddison Hayes earned her first collegiate win, finishing with a time of 5:14.38. Fellow sophomore Savanah Beavers followed with a win of her own, finishing first in the 3000m with a time of 10:21.29.

Lehigh continued to shine on the track during the middle distance and sprints events. Senior Elena Perez-Segnini earned her second consecutive win in the 800m, finishing the race with a time of 2:17.27. Fellow senior Ashley Griesmeyer earned the first sprints victory of the weekend in the 60m hurdles, winning the event with a time of 9.07.

First-years Grace Kennedy and Gianna Mangili continued to put up impressive times on the track in their first seasons as Mountain Hawks. Kennedy won the 400m with a time of 59.43 while Mangili won the 60m with a time of 7.89. Senior Ashley Struck won the final sprints event of the weekend, winning the 200m with a time of 25.75.

The Mountain Hawks wrapped up the Angry Birds Invitational with a convincing win in the 4×400 relay. Struck competed in the race alongside graduate student Lauren Powell and sophomores Shelby Dejana and Stephanie Webb. The relay team won the final race of the weekend with a time of 4:05.14.

The Moravian Indoor Meet will begin at 10 am on Saturday while the Villanova Invitational is set to begin at 4 pm Live results for Moravian’s meet will be available on MitchellTiming.com while results for Villanova’s meet can be found on MileSplit.com.
