Lehigh Opens Patriot League Action with Trip to Army

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s basketball team is looking to rebound off a loss with a trip to Army West Point Friday to open Patriot League competition. The Mountain Hawks hold a two-game winning streak over the Black Knights, claim both meetings inside of Stabler Arena last season, including a 91-77 victory in the Patriot League quarterfinals.

Lehigh (5-6) enters the night coming off a 96-64 loss to Cornell on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Keith Higgins Jr. earned Patriot League Honorable Mention for his 21 points, three assists and two steals, to go with two rebounds and a blocked shot. Also scoring double figures were Jakob Alamudun and Evan Taylor, with Alamadun contributing 15 points, six boards and an assist while Taylor added 10 points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and a steal.

Three Mountain Hawks are averaging at least 12 points per game, led by Taylor with 13.5 points per game, with 5.4 rebounds per outing. Higgins Jr. follows with 12.9 points and 2.4 assists per game. while Whitney-Sidney is scoring 12.0 points per outing, and a team-leading 20 steals and 4.7 rebounds

Army (6-7) comes into the Patriot League opener after claiming a 66-55 road victory over Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, Dec. 20. Jalen Rucker led all Black Knights in scoring with 18 points and six boards to go with three assists. Coleton Benson added 13 points and four boards while Charlie Peterson tossed in 11 points two assists and two rebounds. Rucker leads Army in points with 14.2 points per contest and 3.3 assists per game while Chris Mann has 13.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Following close behind is Coleton Benson 13.1 while Ethan Roberts rounds out double-digit scorers for the Black Knights with 10.5 points and 4.5 boards per game.

Lehigh has claimed the last two meetings between the programs but Army won the last two meetings at West Point. Army holds the series lead of 67-48, and the Mountain Hawks last victory at West Point was February 2, 2019 when the Brown and White earned a 75-70 win.

Friday’s game tips off just after 6 pm from Christl Arena with streaming on ESPN+ and audio coverage on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.

The Mountain Hawks return to Stabler Arena to kick off the new year with a Patriot League game against Colgate, on Monday, Jan. 2. Game time has been moved to 2 pm from its originally scheduled 7 pm start.
