TAMPA, Fla. – First-year catcher Rory Dudley hit her first career home run and drove in four as Lehigh opened his six-game Spring Break trip to Florida with an 8-0, five-inning win over Niagara Wednesday at USF Softball Stadium.

The Mountain Hawks scored in four of their five times at bat with junior Emily Cimino and senior Jaelynn Chesson both contributing two RBIs as Lehigh improves to 4-9 on the season.

Sophomore Katelyn Young earned the win in the circle, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out two to improve to 2-4 on the year.

Young worked out of a first inning jam by striking out Maggie Kellner to keep the Purple Eagles (4-6) off the board.

Senior Carley Barjaktarovich led off the bottom of the first with an infield single, stole second and then scored two batters later as Dudley lifted a two-run home run to left field.

Chesson tackled on a run for Lehigh in the bottom of the third as she doubled home Cimino, who led off the frame with a double of her own. The RBI was the 100th of Chesson’s career.

Lehigh broke the game open with a four-run fourth inning, featuring a Cimino bases loaded walk, a two-run single by Dudley and a sacrifice fly by Chesson.

In the fifth, the Mountain Hawks loaded the bases with nobody out and were in danger of being turned aside with no runs, but Cimino delivered a single through the left side scoring sophomore Amanda Greaney with the game-ending run.

Lehigh finished with nine hits, with Cimino and Dudley both going 2-for-3. Cimino and Barjaktarovich both scored two runs on the afternoon. Lehigh also stole three bases off Niagara pitchers.

The Mountain Hawks continue their Florida trip on Thursday with a pair of games against Big Ten foes at USF Softball Stadium. Lehigh will face Ohio State at 11 am and Purdue at 1:30 pm
