Lehigh falters against Army in dual meet finale

WEST POINT, NY – It was quite the night that the Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team planned for, falling to Army West Point, 194.5-94.5 Friday evening at Crandall Pool in the final dual meet of the season. The Mountain Hawks (2-5, 1-3 PL) drop their third straight meet heading into the final weekend before Patriot League Championships.

Lehigh tallied four first-place finishes on the night including a relay win that was a 1-2-3 finish for the Mountain Hawks.

Senior Owen Thomas got the first win of the night for Lehigh in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming to a time of 51.06. Fifth year senior Joe Huber came in third at 52.16. Senior Glenn Lasco finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with at time of 20.96 and Miles Cox got the final individual win in the 200-yard IM (1:58.52).

The most impressive showing of the night came in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the Mountain Hawks took the entire podium with a 1-2-3 finish. The team of Alex Patti, Aiden McCurley, Tim Norris and Connor Goodyear came in first with a time of 3:10.40. In second was Caleb Eberly, Janik Wing, Nick Lynam and Keagan Casey (3:16.32), while Andrew Sukach, Sean Davis, Jake Stafford and Connor Drucis finished third (3:27.08).

On the diving boards, senior Addison Cochran picked up a pair of third-place finishes in the one-meter dive (246.53) and the three-meter (223.73).

Lehigh competes in the final meet before Patriot League Championships next weekend at the ESU Invite hosted by East Stroudsburg. The quad-meet will feature ESU, Kutztown and Millersville. The event kicks off at 1 pm
