BETHLEHEM, Pa- The Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team had a strong day in its season-opener, but the Mountain Hawks ultimately fell short to Loyola, 196-98, Saturday night at Jacobs Pool.

It was the freshman and sophomore men who stepped up for the Mountain Hawks.

Competing without any divers, Lehigh tried to battle back without them, but it just wasn’t enough against a tough Loyola team.

Freshman Aaron Williams won two of his events and finished second and third in the other in his first-ever collegiate race. Williams won the 100-yard butterfly (50.83), was on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, got second in the 200-yard medley relay and finished in third in the 50-yard freestyle (21.95).

Freshman Tim Norris was also on the 200-yard freestyle relay, placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (47.22) and got fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.89).

Freshman Ben Kisker took home three points in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.55) and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke (52.69).

Sophomore Connor Goodyear led the way for the sophomores, winning the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.52) and placing third in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:06.64).

Lehigh will look to bounce back when the Mountain Hawks take on Bloomsburg and West Chester at West Chester on Oct. 15 at 1:00 p.m
