Lehigh Drops Series-Opener to Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – In its first game of the series, Lehigh baseball dropped a tough one, falling 1-0 to Delaware State on Friday. The Hornets scored their only run of the game in the first inning but the Mountain Hawks were unable to find their rhythm to pick up the win at Dover.

Senior Luke Rettig started on the mound for the Mountain Hawks after being named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week. Rettig gave up two hits and Delaware State’s only run in the first inning. The senior went on to pitch six innings, finishing with seven strikeouts and five hits allowed.

Lehigh struggled to get into a rhythm offensively on Friday. However, in the second inning, sophomores Andrew Nole, Drew Morse and Riley Davis earned walks, but the Mountain Hawks left the bases loaded.

Lehigh grabbed his first hit of the game in the seventh inning. Nole hit a single into right field, securing his fifth hit of the season. Nole finished Friday 1-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk.

Sophomore Tyler Thompson made his third appearance for Lehigh. Thompson pitched three innings for the Mountain Hawks, giving up three hits and striking out two.

The Mountain Hawks fall to 4-4 on the season while Delaware State improves to 1-4. Lehigh will remain in Dover to finish the three-game series on Saturday and Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm on both days.
