BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Twenty of Lehigh University’s athletic programs finished at or above the national average as the NCAA released its latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) data on Tuesday. In addition, 13 programs earned perfect 1000 APR scores for the 2020-21 academic year and nine had perfect multi-year APR scores.

Four men’s programs achieved perfect multi-year APR scores: cross country, golf, track and field and tennis. All 12 women’s programs met or exceeded the 984 national average APR with five programs earning perfect scores: cross country, rowing, soccer, tennis and track and field. The most recent multi-year APR scores are based on the scores from 2017-18 through 2020-21. New data was released Tuesday following a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 13 programs to earn a perfect 1000 APR for the 2020-21 school year were men’s basketball, men’s soccer, men’s swimming and diving, men’s track and field, women’s cross country, women’s rowing, field hockey, women’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis, volleyball and softball. Men’s cross country, men’s golf and men’s tennis were excluded from the 2020-21 public release due to FERPA regulations, as the data cells contained three or fewer student-athletes.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn one point for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

A full list of APRs for each team can be accessed by using the APR searchable database.
