Hurly Paces Lehigh On Day One At The Doc Gimmler

FARMINGDALE, NY – Senior David Hurly delivered two rounds in the 60s to lead the Lehigh men’s golf team on day one of The Doc Gimmler on the Red Course at Bethpage State Park. Hurly shot rounds of 68 and 67 and sits in a tie for seventh place at 135. The Mountain Hawks as a team shot 288 and 273 for a total of 561, and are tied for seventh place in a 15-team field.

Hurly’s first 36 holes included 10 birdies, five in each round.

Sophomore Aidan Oehrle and junior Edmund Broderick are both tied for 45th place at 143. Oehrle made three birdies with rounds of 72 and 71, while Broderick rebounded from an opening round 75 with a 68 in the afternoon that included two birdies and 16 pars.

First-year Jake Roth made four birdies in a strong afternoon 67 and paired with a 77 in the morning sits in a tie for 52nd place at 144.

Sophomore Jahan Bains rounds out Lehigh’s five-player team. Bains is tied for 79th at 151 (73-78). He made five birdies including four in round one.

Senior Sam Barton is competing as an individual and is tied for 71st place at 148 (72-76).

Harvard leads the team race at 537 (264-273). The Crimson lead host St. John’s by two strokes.

Jeff Fang from Harvard and Jared Nelson from UConn share the overall lead at 10 under par, one shot better than Peicheng Chen from St. John’s.

The Doc Gimmler concludes Sunday with the final round beginning at 7:30 am from Bethpage Red.
