Cunningham Named Rookie of the Week Ahead of Outdoor Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women’s track and field first-year Melissa Cunningham was named Patriot League Women’s Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Cunningham had an incredible weekend at the Penn Relays and Carol and John Covert Classic last weekend. On Friday in Philadelphia, the first-year was a member of the record-breaking 4×100 relay team. She ran alongside senior Camari Griffin, sophomore Ashley Struck and fellow first-year Stephanie Webb to finish first with a time of 46.95.

On Saturday, Cunningham broke her second school record of the weekend, this time in Bethlehem. She won the 200m with a time of 24.44, securing her fourth school record of the year. During the indoor season, Cunningham broke records in both the 60m and 200m.

The Mountain Hawks will head to Annapolis, Md. for the outdoor Patriot League Championships on Friday and Saturday. Competition will begin Friday at 9 am with the women’s hammer throw and women’s 10k.
