Burke and Slavin Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men’s track and field team wrapped up the outdoor season a few weeks ago but the Mountain Hawks continue to earn academic recognition. Graduate student Seth Slavin and senior Kyle Burke were members of a ten person group to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The Academic All-District teams are voted on by members of CoSIDA whose schools are in the region. District 2 consists of schools from Washington, DC, Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. To be eligible for the team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or key reserve.

Burke is a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree, after winning the honors following both the indoor and outdoor seasons this year. The senior graduated Lehigh with a 3.66 cumulative GPA in computer science and business. He was named to the Dean’s List several times throughout his academic career and was a member of the Patriot League Honor Roll six times as well.

On the track, Burke had a stellar senior year, breaking seven school records during the indoor and outdoor season. He is the 800m Patriot League Champion in both indoor and outdoor and earned his third gold medal in the distance medley relay where he competed with juniors Kerem Ayhan, Connor Melko and Jacob Martinez.

Slavin has excelled on the track and in the classroom during his Lehigh career. The graduate student graduated with a 4.0 with a masters of mechanical engineering and has been named to the Dean’s List and Patriot League Honor Roll several times throughout his academic career. He was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Team in 2019 as well as the USTFCCA All-Academic Team.

In 2019, Slavin was named Second Team All-Patriot League for men’s cross country. During the 2021 cross country season, he was a top finisher for the Mountain Hawks in the Patriot League Championship, finishing 20th overall. In his final track season at Lehigh, Slavin put up solid times on the track. At the Patriot League Championships, he finished sixth overall in the 10k with a time of 30:36.52. Against long-time rival Lafayette, the graduate student won the 5k with a personal best of 14:51.43.

Burke is currently competing for Lehigh at the NCAA East Prelims in Bloomington, Ind. He will compete in the 800m quarterfinals on Friday at 7:05 pm
