Bennett’s School Record Leads to Second PL Rookie of the Week Award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men’s track and field athlete Jonathan Bennett was named Patriot League Men’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. The announcement was made by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Bennett finished the Rutgers Open with two impressive performances including a new school record. The Washington state native competed in the 60m hurdles where he broke the school record with a time of 8.12. Bennett also finished the 60m with a time of 7.03.

After his impressive performance on Saturday, the first year is currently third all-time in the 60m (6.95) and tied for eighth in the 200m (22.32).

Seniors Teasha McKoy and Kyle Burke were named Patriot League Honorable Mention for their performances over the weekend. McKoy competed at the Monmouth Invitational where she broke school records in both the shot put (14.52m) and weight throw (18.96m). The senior finished first in both events and set a new facility record at OceanFirst Bank Center in the weight throw.

Burke also broke a school record of his own over the weekend. The senior broke the school record in the mile at the Rutgers Open on Friday (4:05.00). Burke now owns school records for the mile, 1000m and distance medley relay and is currently second all-time in the 800m (1:51.44).

The Mountain Hawks are looking to continue building on their success at the upcoming Bucknell Tune-Up in Lewisburg, Pa. Lehigh’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete on Friday Feb. 18.
